BIO
Armenian American, b. 1994
Tara Ohanian is a multidisciplinary artist primarily working with paint, collage, and found objects. She was born and raised in New Jersey and is currently living and practicing in Brooklyn, New York. Her Armenian heritage largely informs the themes in her work.
Tara’s works often take place in rural, suburban, and urban settings, which are inhabited with her curvilinear forms and figures. These figurations are charged with a self-reflexive kind of humor derived from the complexities of shame and personhood. Her works explore themes of identity, sexuality, climate change, and desire for connection especially during moments of solitude and uncertainty. Tara examines the quiddity of humans’ relationships to each of these themes and the seemingly tragic, yet amusing, [sur]reality of our collective consciousness.
